The SWITCHBOARD SCRIPT release 1.1 april 2002
1. PURPOSE
Purpose: provide an easy way to link together (next, back)
several pages belonging to the same directory, without having to update each page
when there are changes (insertions, deletions, position).
It is the principle of the switchboard: all the
wires connect to a central exchange, responsible of the connections. When there is
a need for a new connection, one works only at the switchboard level, and not at every
end.
2. DOCUMENTATION SUPPLIED and DELIVERABLES
The script is fully documented. A comprehensive user guide
is included, as well as a working example.
The zip file contains the following items:

The default.htm is the page you should start
from. It leads you to the example and to the user guide. The switch.js is the main script where you assign the linking
instructions, once for all your pages. When the sequence changes, you just change
switch.js. |

(*) This template is used when one wants to address
pages from a Table of Content, and prefers to link back to the Table of content, when the
user clicks on back.

3. TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
We found this development very handy and fast in the
following circumstances:
- publication of scientific report, with a logical link
between pages
- management reports.
- e-learning sites, where the author wants to avoid the
trainee to go in all directions;
- situations when one wants to avoid long vertical scrollings
- linking together pages coming from large word documents
- situations where the web designer wants the reader to
concentrate on
- situations where the navigation between page is unclear, so
we do it at the end, in one single script
