Belgium, a country known for cartoons, illustrations and comic strips

Our artists come from Belgium, which achieved a strong reputation for illustrations, comic strips, cartoons. Many characters like Tintin, Spirou, Boule et Bill, Michel Vaillant, Lucky Luke, Blake and Mortimer, Bob & Bobette were designed there. Many publishers like Editions Dupuis, Editions Casterman, started in Belgium.  Authors like Hergé, Roba, Peyo, Franquin, Edgard P.Jacobs, Graton, Morris, Geluck have had a tremendous success.  The production is extremely active: the country counts around 700 creators, and several art schools are focusing on what is now called " the 9th art" . In Brussels, the "Centre Belge de la bande dessinée", is a museum dedicated to this artistic creation, situated in a "Art Deco" building. In several places around Brussels, walls are decorated with large cartoons.
